Day One: The Journey Begins

It’s thanks to other travel blogs that I started to think I might be capable of doing a trip around the world on my own. And so, at the end of October I notified work, at the end of January I left work, and here I am, about to set off on my first flight. Destination: Burma.

Burma is a tricky place to start. Since the explosion of tourism in the last couple of years it’s been increasingly difficult to find accommodation, and because many businesses don’t have a website there’s no way to check availability other than phoning. My attempts to phone Burma from the UK were disastrous so I gave up and am just hoping for the best.

So why did I choose to throw myself in at the deep end? Well, it’s all about timing really. A friend who has travelled there a few times told me it’s changing so rapidly I should get there before this season ends. And anyway, I like a challenge.

  1. I bet the first day was an amzing and yet utterly terrifying experience.

Sorry if this is a bit of a personal question but do you mind telling me how much you managed to save up for travelling and how long you plan on travelling for. I am always curious and trying to compare savings with my own.

    • Hi J, thanks for commenting! After reading many other blogs I decided that a budget of $50 per day is reasonable, so that’s what I’m keeping in mind as I go along and what I planned for. Good luck with your planning!
